Giant Bomb's web property was in need of a redesign to more accurately align with the content strategy focusing on video and audio content.
Broadly, the goal was to provide more streamlined navigation and discovery for this content while improving the watching and listening experience once users found the content they wanted to consume.
The launch of the new site and consuming experience resulted in users spending fewer steps and less time finding content they wanted to consume as well as consuming more than they had before the redesign, aligning with the goal of more acutely focusing on video and audio content on the site.
The information architecture was refactored to better organize content by Show, including a new Episode object type which could be associated of multiple variants of the same content. This unified user comment threads into one location per Episode and allowed users to more easily save Episodes to their watchlist.
Internally, the pipeline for content creation was significantly simplified and reduced the amount of time spent creating episodes.
An updated video/audio player for the site contributed to a cleaner and more reliable consuming experience for users and subscribers.
